PANORAMA CITY : Volunteers Needed for Reading Program
Wanted: a few good readers.
The Panorama City branch of the Los Angeles Public Library is seeking older adult volunteers for its Grandparents and Books program. The volunteers work two to 10 hours a week presenting stories to preschool and elementary school age children in the library.
Bilingual skills are helpful, but the most important requirement is being able to be a good “grandparent” figure to stimulate a desire to read in the children, said Ruth Seid, the children’s librarian at the branch. “Grandparents and older people are a great untapped resource in our society,” Seid said.
Step-by-step training on how to read aloud to children and use puppets in the presentations will be given to volunteers.
The Panorama City branch is located at 14345 Roscoe Blvd.
