Andrew Tully Jr.; War Correspondent
Andrew Tully Jr., author of 16 books and the first American reporter to enter Berlin after it was conquered by Allied forces in 1945, has died. He was 78.
Tully died of complications of Alzheimer’s disease Monday in a Silver Spring, Md., nursing home.
During World War II, he was a European correspondent for the Boston Traveler. He wrote a book about the war scene he covered in Germany, “Berlin: Story of a Battle.”
After the war, he covered the White House for the Scripps-Howard Newspaper Alliance, and in 1961 he started a syndicated column, “Capital Fare.”
His books, which included a novel titled “Capitol Hill,” focused on the inner workings of government.
Tully is survived by his wife, Molly, five children and seven grandchildren.
