Mater Dei Names Myers as Softball Coach

SANTA ANA —  Doug Myers, who coached Ocean View to the Southern Section Division I softball semifinals, has been named Mater Dei’s softball coach.

Ocean View was 22-7 last season. It knocked Mater Dei out of the playoffs before losing in the semifinals to eventual champion Simi Valley. The Seahawks were sixth in the final Southern Section Coaches’ poll; Mater Dei was fourth.

Myers, a softball coach for nine years, replaces Karyn Rice, who left to become an assistant at Colorado State. Mater Dei was 19-4 last season.
