A Bluer ‘NYPD’
ABC’s “NYPD Blue” has shown us that there is still hope for adult television. This TV show took us to the real New York City, not just the skyscrapers.
With Steven Bochco’s airing nudity and vulgar language, it is sad that so many people have no understanding of real police work, or for that matter, real life.

Talk about double standards! It’s OK for ABC to show the naked rear-end of an actress over and over during the much-publicized love scene in the premiere of “NYPD Blue.” But when I read in the L.A. Times how executives were upset at seeing the actor’s naked behind in early screenings and ultimately ordered 15 seconds cut from the scene, I was furious. How about a little more respect for women and cover up the actress too?

Last night I watched the first episode of “NYPD Blue” and came up with the following recipe--”A Thankless Turkey (Or, Foul-Bochco):
Truss up a large turkey, salt with a generous amount of sleaze, pepper with obscenities and stuff with stale plots and tasteless spice. Bake until blue and creative juices run dry. Serve hot to critics and warmed over to weary viewers. Save bones for rerun shop.
“Hill Street Blues,” how I miss you!

Re response to “News Gets Low Priority” (Talk Back, Sept. 19):
You bet I have a problem with Michael Jackson’s headache taking priority over our nation’s flood victims, not to mention the sick ducks in Venice taking precedence over the rape, murder and pillaging of our fellow citizens.
The final insult is that all this tragedy mixed with the trivial is squeezed between commercials and moronic newscasters joking about their new haircuts and chatting about their weekends.
