Burroughs Surprises Saugus, 24-22
Burroughs High is within one victory of a postseason berth after stunning Saugus, 24-22, Friday night in a Foothill League game at Burroughs.

High school football--The Times incorrectly identified the player who kicked what proved to be the decisive field goal in Burroughs High’s 24-22 victory over Saugus on Friday night. Anthony Perico kicked a 25-yard field goal with 7 minutes 51 seconds remaining to give Burroughs a 24-14 lead.
Carlos Moreno rushed for 80 yards in 16 carries and scored two touchdowns for Burroughs (4-5, 1-2 in league play), which can make the playoffs with a victory over Burbank next week.
Ken Knoop provided the winning margin when he kicked a 25-yard field goal midway through the fourth quarter to give the Indians a 24-14 lead.
Burroughs running back Ed Melga gained 106 yards in 12 carries.
Saugus cut the difference to 24-22 when Chris Johnson scored his third touchdown on a three-yard run with 3:38 to play. Jeff Larson added a two-point conversion on a pass from Greg Marquez.
Johnson led Saugus (5-4, 1-3) with 165 yards in 22 carries.
Burroughs took a 13-0 first-quarter lead on scoring runs of one yard by Moreno and 16 yards by quarterback Scott Boldvich. Boldvich completed six of 10 passes for 81 yards.
Saugus had a brief 14-13 lead in the second quarter behind a pair of touchdown runs by Johnson. However, Moreno added his second touchdown before halftime to give Burroughs the lead for good.
