ANAHEIM : School Sets Up Fund for Victim’s Family
Staff and students at Dale Junior High School have set up a fund to help the family of Angela Andrade-Torres, who died Monday, three weeks after being hit by a suspected drunk driver.
Two of Andrade-Torres’ daughters, Brenda and LuzAdriana, are students at Dale, and their loss has been felt by everyone at the school, Principal Robert Montenegro said Friday.
Students have collected about $400 for the family to help with funeral arrangements for the 38-year-old woman, whose family is trying to have her body shipped to Colima, Mexico, for burial.
“It really has touched the students, and certainly they are reaching out,” Montenegro said. “To have something like this happen is just so devastating, and we would like to help lessen the hardship for that family.”
Andrade-Torres was walking home from the laundry where she worked on Oct. 16 when she was struck and run over by a car that had swerved onto the sidewalk on Magnolia Avenue. She suffered internal injuries and broken bones.
Shortly after the incident, police arrested Daniel Gonzalez Banuelos of Anaheim, who is being held at Orange County Jail on $25,000 bail. Banuelos’ blood-alcohol content was three times the legal limit of 0.08, police said.
Andrade-Torres left behind four children and three grandchildren who were largely dependent on her financially.
Donations to the school’s fund for the family can be sent to: Dale Junior High School, c/o Associated Student Body Torres Fund, 900 S. Dale St., Anaheim, Calif. 92804.
