From Rough to Ready
Three students at Pasadena’s Art Center College of Design showed thousands of visitors to the Orange County Auto Show in Anaheim last week how rough blocks of clay are carefully carved and molded into sleek models of what the cars of tomorrow may look like. The models, carved over the nine-day run of the show, were part of the students’ senior projects. The students used computer drafting programs and finally the clay models to translate their original concept drawing into detailed, one-fifth-scale mock-ups. The theme of the auto show was Southern California’s role as a center of automobile styling leadership.
