PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Appendectomy Sidelines McCallum
Napoleon McCallum’s season may have ended soon after it began. McCallum was scheduled to return to Los Angeles Monday night after undergoing an emergency appendectomy Saturday in Cincinnati, but he will be out of action indefinitely.
Asked if the running back might be put on the injured-reserve list, thereby making him ineligible to return this season, Coach Art Shell said that was “a possibility.”

Offensive tackle Gerald Perry, who left the team prior to Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals to attend his brother’s funeral in South Carolina, is expected back later in the week. . . . Wide receiver Alexander Wright, who sat out Sunday’s game because of an ankle sprain, is expected to test the ankle in practice this week. . . . X-rays on the injured left finger of defensive lineman Anthony Smith showed no fracture. Smith first hurt the finger two weeks ago, banging it on the helmet of the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Dave Krieg while attempting to record a sack.
