GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Century Beats Santa Ana Valley in Overtime, 45-42
Karen Hammontree scored a basket and Rosa Palacios made a free throw to give Century a 45-42 overtime victory over Santa Ana Valley in a semifinal of the Century girls’ basketball tournament Thursday.
Laura Zepeda’s seven points late in the fourth quarter helped Century rally. Nina Alexander scored 21 points for the Centurions (2-0), who will meet Troy today for the title.
In the other Century tournament semifinal:
Troy 59, Corona del Mar 45--Audra Gamst and Stephanie Bloomingdale each had 13 points for Troy.
In the Alemany Tournament:
Mater Dei 77, Ojai Nordoff 36--Melody Peterson scored 18 points and Adriene Botana added 14, including four three-pointers, to lead Mater Dei (1-0) in the first round.
In the Century tournament:
Sonora 48, Sunny Hills 44--Sophomore Aiyanna Nash scored 30 points, including five three-pointers, for Sonora (1-2).
In the Fullerton tournament:
Katella 52, Western 35--Deborah Vargas had 17 points, 10 steals and five assists for Katella (1-1) in a first-round victory. Isabel Rojas had 23 points and 14 rebounds for Western (0-1).
In the Etiwanda tournament:
Brea-Olinda 86, Ridgecrest Burroughs 30--Colleen Hudson had 19 points and Lee Moulin 15 for Brea-Olinda (2-0) in a first-round game.
In nonleague play:
Magnolia 56, Buena Park 38--Barbara Mathews had 17 points, Whitney Torregano had 12 points and Dorretha Bennem had seven points and 14 rebounds for host Magnolia (2-0).
Trabuco Hills 33, El Toro 32--Dyanna Hatch scored 11 points and Jennifer Ross made two free throws with eight seconds left to lift host Trabuco Hills (1-1).
Mission Viejo 41, La Habra 32--Treva Whitaker scored 19 points to lead Mission Viejo (2-0). Brooke Koehler had 14 points for host La Habra.
