NORTHRIDGE : CSUN President Unveils Plan to Improve Counseling
Responding to longstanding complaints, Cal State Northridge President Blenda Wilson on Monday unveiled a proposal to overhaul the university’s system for providing students with academic counseling.
CSUN suffers from a high dropout rate, and poor academic advising was one of the chief criticisms of the school by an accreditation committee in 1991. Students have long complained about being directed to the wrong courses and having their graduations delayed because of such problems.
Under Wilson’s reorganization proposal, the university would create a “one-stop” advising resource center and develop a computer system to better track students’ academic progress.
