Cotton Comes to Mater Dei
HUNTINGTON BEACH — Schea Cotton, one of the top young basketball players in the nation, has registered at Mater Dei, Monarch Coach Gary McKnight said Monday.
Cotton, a 6-foot-5, 215-pound freshman, began the school year at Bellflower St. John Bosco, where he was playing on the varsity. His family is in the process of moving to Orange County, according to McKnight. That would make Cotton immediately eligible.
Under Southern Section rules, a player who transfers is eligible if his family has a change of residence. The enrollment process at Mater Dei is expected to take one or two days.
Cotton has been considered one of the top players in his age-group since he was in elementary school. He has played in several national all-star games and was invited to play in the Nike all-star tournament last September. He was the only freshman invited.
