Quincy Watts’ Gold Medals Stolen by Armed Robbers in Inglewood

Family members of Olympic runner Quincy Watts were robbed late Tuesday and among the items stolen from their Inglewood home were the two gold medals won by Watts in the 1992 Olympics.

Watts was not at the residence when the robbery occurred at about 11 p.m. Tuesday, said Inglewood Police Sgt. Alex Perez, who added he did not know if Watts lived at the home.

Watts won the 400 meters in Barcelona and was a member of the winning U.S. 1,600-meter relay team.

Watts’ grandmother and another female relative whose identity wasn’t released were returning home from shopping when they were confronted in the garage by three armed men, Perez said.

“They forced the women to go into the house,” Perez said. “Two other male relatives were inside. The suspects then searched the house for money and other valuables, and after they collected what they wanted, including two of Quincy Watts’ gold medals, they left in the family car.”

Perez said there were no injuries and that there might have been more than three men involved in the robbery. He described the men as black males in their mid-20s. The stolen car, a 1985 Cadillac Eldorado, was recovered Wednesday morning, Perez said.
