Last year, when Michigan and Washington were rematched, both schools returned thousands of tickets, and the official attendance was a less-than-capacity 94,236. . . .

Today, the demand far exceeds the supply. Murray’s Tickets is getting as much as $550 for seats with a face value of $46. There were 58 want ads for tickets in The Times’ classified section Tuesday. . . .

Pacific 10 Conference publicist Jim Muldoon says the demand is the greatest for a Rose Bowl game since 1982, when Iowa made its first appearance in 23 years. . . .

The copyright to “On, Wisconsin” is owned by Michael Jackson, who purchased it from Paul McCartney. . . .

UCLA receivers coach Rick Neuheisel, who threw four touchdown passes against Illinois in the 1984 Rose Bowl and was voted player of the game, was born in Madison, and his parents are Wisconsin graduates. . . .

Badger defensive coordinator Dan McCarney is a former Iowa assistant and player who is most likely to succeed Hayden Fry as Hawkeye coach some day. . . .

If Terrell Fletcher gains 68 yards Saturday, he will join fellow Badger tailback Brent Moss in the 1,000-yard club. . . .

UCLA is 7-1 against Wisconsin, the most recent meeting being a 51-26 Bruin victory at Camp Randall Stadium in 1982. . . .

The biggest upset Saturday would be lousy weather. The last Rose Bowl game played in the rain was in 1955, when Ohio State defeated USC, 20-7, and the bands were prohibited from performing on the muddy field during halftime. . . .

Wisconsin was nationally ranked 13 consecutive weeks. Before this season, it was ranked in only 10 weeks since 1963. . . .

Badger quarterback Darrell Bevell’s two-year Mormon mission was to Cleveland. . . .

The second-lightest player to appear in the Rose Bowl, 138-pound Al Hoisch of UCLA, returned a kickoff 100 yards during the Bruins’ 45-14 loss to Illinois in 1947. . . .

Howard Jones, Woody Hayes, Jim Plunkett and Bump Elliott were the first inductees into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame in 1989. . . .

UCLA will be the only team playing a major bowl game on its home field. . . .

Since leaving the Coliseum after the 1981 season, the Bruins are 49-21-2 in Pasadena. . . .

However, they were 3-3 at the Bowl this season and aren’t unhappy about being designated the road team and having to wear their white jerseys. . . .

Wisconsin’s comeback against USC in 1963 was hard to watch for Trojan fans, for more reason than one. The lighting at the Rose Bowl was terrible then and it was difficult to follow the action during the closing moments of a long game as Ron VanderKelen rallied the Badgers within 42-37. . . .

In a Badger uniform that day was Rick Reichardt, who led the team in receiving the next season before signing what was a record bonus contract with the Los Angeles Angels as an outfielder. . . .

During Stanford’s 21-13 victory over Nebraska in 1941, Coach Clark Shaughnessy and quarterback Frankie Albert popularized a wild and whacky offensive formation. It was known as the T-formation. . . .

There are no common opponents, but Wisconsin’s only defeat was by 28-21 to Minnesota, which lost, 48-17, to San Diego State, which lost, 52-13, to UCLA. . . .
