COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Martin, Moorpark Sizzle in 2nd Half, 85-61
Sean Martin scored 19 of his 25 points in the second half to help Moorpark College turn a tie game into an 85-61 Western State Conference rout Tuesday night at Moorpark.
Moorpark entered halftime tied, 27-27, before outscoring the Vaqueros (9-9), 58-34, in the second half.
Martin, a guard, also handed out 10 assists for the Raiders (16-4 overall, 4-0 in conference), who won their ninth consecutive game.
WOMEN
Moorpark 60, Glendale 54--Forward Janette Oriza had 16 points and 17 rebounds while point guard Joy Garcia added 12 points and five assists to lead the host Raiders (7-10, 4-0) in the Western State Conference interdivision game.
After trailing, 26-25, at halftime, Moorpark went on an 11-2 run to open the second half. Glendale got back into the game with eight minutes remaining before getting into foul trouble.
Canyons 79, Oxnard 54--Rebekah Cunnan scored a career-high 30 points and added nine rebounds to lead Canyons (7-11, 3-1) in the Western State Conference inter-division game at Oxnard.
Cunnan made 10 of 20 shots and 10 of 13 free throws.
Compton 53, Valley 41--Nicole Baynes scored 11 points for the visiting Monarchs (6-14, 1-3) in the Western State Conference loss.
Valley, plagued by poor field-goal shooting, hit just 15 of 61 shots.
Ventura 54, Santa Monica 44--Julie Hardy scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Pirates (14-4, 4-0) past Santa Monica (5-10, 3-1) in a Western State Conference game.
Andrea Williams added 18 points and seven assists for Ventura.
Pomona-Pitzer 70, Cal Lutheran 63--Kelli McCaskill had 19 points and 13 rebounds in a losing effort for the Regals (4-6) in an SCIAC opener at Thousand Oaks.
