LOS ANGELES : LAPD Officer Charged With Rape at Gunpoint
A 12-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department was charged Wednesday with raping a woman at gunpoint on a San Pedro street while off duty.
Raymond Gerber, 42, was arrested at his home Wednesday afternoon after police investigated a claim by a 33-year-old woman that he had forced her “to commit an illegal sexual act” with him on West 7th Street.
LAPD Cmdr. Dave Gascon said that the woman reported the crime immediately to Harbor Division police, who traced Gerber through his car license plate. Gerber is a patrol officer in that division.
Gascon said Gerber was not in uniform “and his employment was not a factor in the crime.” Gerber was scheduled to be arraigned this morning in Los Angeles Municipal Court on charges of kidnaping for a sexual purpose and felony assault.
