Inspection Tag’s Colors Demystified
In the aftermath of Monday’s earthquake, anyone concerned about the condition of their home or business can look for placards posted by the city Department of Building and Safety indicating that an inspection has been done. The 18-by-24-inch placards are in three colors:
* Green placards indicate it is safe to enter and occupy a building;
* Red placards indicate that the building is unsafe and should not be entered;
* Yellow placards indicate entry is restricted; occupants may enter at their own risk to gather belongings, but may not stay and occupy the building.
Specific restrictions are indicated on yellow placards. For instance, the restriction may only apply to one part of a building.
The placards generally are posted at main entrances.
