Hotel Discounts From California to Florida

Seniors can take advantage of numerous discounts and deals offered by resorts and hotels throughout the United States. Each listing is followed by a toll-free phone number through which travelers can make reservations and request brochures or other information.

* In Southern California, near the city of Fallbrook and the Temecula wine country in San Diego County, is the Pala Mesa Resort, which has initiated a “55 Club for Seniors.” Those 55 and older can get a guest room for $55, which is 50% off the regular $110 rate. For golfers, Pala Mesa offers a weekday golf package, Sunday through Thursday, which includes a guest room for one night and 18 holes of golf with greens fee and cart for $55 per person. South Seas Plantation, a hotel/ condominium resort on Captiva Island on Florida’s west coast, near the city of Ft. Myers, is offering a Gold Club Holiday package for active seniors. The package is for four days/three nights and is loaded with extras, including breakfast for three days, lunch for two, a “Tropical Island” dinner, an island cruise and a T-shirt.

In addition, there is a choice of several optional tours, greens fee for nine holes of golf, a bike rental, a canoe and other options. The price is determined by the room location on the island and the type of room. Until April 19, the cost for the package ranges $923-$1,107 per couple. * If you’re heading to Kansas City, Mo., the elegant Ritz-Carlton is offering a special rate of $119 for two persons, including a continental breakfast each morning. Regular rates range $149-$199. The program is valid for an indefinite period on a space-available basis. Call (800) 241-3333.

* The Doubletree group of 55 hotels is offering a 30% discount to seniors who are members of AARP, through 1994. All of the Doubletree hotels are in the United States, except for one in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Rates vary, with some running as low as $48 per night and others $200 and more, depending on the city and season. Doubletree is also offering a 10% discount on food and nonalcoholic beverages in its restaurants. * In Florida, the Biscayne Bay Marriott, on Miami’s picturesque waterfront, is offering senior rates ranging $80-$99 through April 2, for rooms that are usually priced $160-$200 per day. The rate is offered to members of AARP, with a 21-day advance purchase. Call (800) 228-9290.
