PREP ROUNDUP : Capistrano Valley Girls Win to Set Up Soccer Showdown
Sarah Hannay, Kelly Skeen and Lindsay Light each scored to give No. 3 Capistrano Valley a 3-0 victory over Dana Hills in a South Coast League girls’ soccer game Tuesday at Dana Hills.
Capistrano Valley (19-3-3, 8-1 in league) remained in first place, a point ahead of Mater Dei with a game remaining in the regular season. The Cougars play host to the Monarchs Thursday.
In another South Coast League game:
Mater Dei 2, Mission Viejo 1--Michelle Perez and Trisha Steiner scored for host Mater Dei (16-5-1, 7-1-1), ranked sixth in the county.
In the Century League:
El Modena 1, Orange 0--Jennifer Nelson scored with two minutes left in the first half for No. 4 El Modena (17-5, 8-1), which clinched its first league title in girls’ soccer.
Canyon 1, Foothill 0--Ingrid Anderson scored one goal and Robin Schmidt recorded four saves to lead Canyon (13-5-2, 6-2-1).
In the Empire League:
Katella 1, El Dorado 0--Jillian Bressler scored a first-half goal for visiting Katella (12-11-4, 6-3).
In the Freeway League:
Fullerton 7, Buena Park 0--Marianne Emigh had three goals and three assists for Fullerton (12-9-2, 5-4).
In the Olympic League:
Whittier Christian 4, Orange Lutheran 1--Kyla Riggs scored two goals for host Whittier Christian (5-12-2, 2-9-2).
In the Orange League:
Brea-Olinda 3, Valencia 0--Alivia Anthony scored two goals for Brea-Olinda (10-6-3, 8-0-1).
In the Pacific Coast League:
Laguna Hills 3, Trabuco Hills 2--Ashley Olivieri scored the winning goal with 2:30 left and Sondra Carlson scored two goals for Laguna Hills (14-5-5, 5-2-2), which upset the No. 10 Mustangs.
In the Sea View League:
Santa Margarita 8, Saddleback 0--Sophomore Annie Luke scored three goals, giving her 12 this season, a Santa Margarita single-season record. She passed her total of 11 last season. Santa Margarita is 15-5-1, 11-1.
Irvine 1, University 0--Jamie Brownlee scored a first-half goal to lead Irvine (13-6-1, 9-2-1).
In the Sunset League:
Ocean View 2, Fountain Valley 0--Kim Engesser scored two goals, giving her 24 for the season and 61 in three years at Ocean View (15-8-2, 6-4-1).
In the Tournament of Champions field hockey tournament:
Edison 0, Santiago 0 (Edison wins on penalty strokes, 1-0)--Kate Johnson scored the only goal in penalty strokes to lead Edison (11-2-1) in the second-round game. Jennifer Silveira had four saves for Santiago (9-6-9).
In Garden Grove League boys’ soccer:
La Quinta 1, Rancho Alamitos 0--Daniel Almazon scored and Rick Matlock had eight saves for La Quinta (1-16-1, 1-12).
Santiago 2, Pacifica 0--Timo Rodriguez and Danny Contreras each scored for Santiago (13-3-3, 11-0-2).
