U2’s management is denying persistent rumors that bassist Adam Clayton is leaving the band due to longstanding “lifestyle” differences between him and the other members. As evidence of harmony, all four U2 members have been helping out on sessions for the debut album by Clayton’s girlfriend, model Naomi Campbell, and are expected to be on hand for Monday’s invitation-only opening of the group’s new Dublin bar-restaurant-club, the Kitchen. . . .

Action seems to have picked up again at the Viper Room, the Sunset Strip club co-owned by Johnny Depp that gained notoriety as the site of River Phoenix’s death in October. Not only did Johnny Cash do a special show there recently, but last week Maria McKee performed with the Jayhawks and Mick Jagger jumped onstage for a few blues numbers with a band featuring L.A. guitarist Jimmy Ripp, who plays on Jagger’s solo projects. . . .

Julio Iglesias, in the spirit of his duet with Willie Nelson, returns to country territory with his upcoming album, “Crazy,” due April 15. The title song is the old Patsy Cline standard, and on another number he duets with Dolly Parton. . . .

L7 is working with producer Garth Richardson (he did Rage Against the Machine’s debut) on a new album, titled “Hungry for Stink” and due in June. . . . Grant Lee Buffalo also has a new album due in June, following a March gig opening Midwestern shows by Pearl Jam. . . .

Not only is Deconstruction--the band formed by former Jane’s Addiction bassist Eric Avery and guitarist Dave Navarro--not going to be promoting its album due to Navarro’s joining the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but now it can’t even use the name, due to a small record label already having it tied up. The album, due in April, will still be titled “Deconstruction” though. . . .

While Public Image Limited is at work on a new album, leader John Lydon can be heard on a new U.K.-only single with techno group Left Field. The track, titled “Open Up,” features typically vituperative Lydon lyrics, this time aimed at the Hollywood show-biz machine. . . .

The Emerson, Lake & Palmer reunion seems to have stuck: The prog-rock trio is recording a new album with veteran producer Keith Olsen in Los Angeles. . . . Rapper Grand Puba is at work on a new album, due in the summer. . . .

Jonathan Richman is working on a Spanish-language album, featuring versions of some of his old songs en espanol . . . Los Lobos’ Cesar Rosas produced a new album for San Diego rockers the Paladins, due Feb. 22. Rosas will guest with the band when it plays the Whisky on March 12.
