‘94 WINTER OLYMPICS / LILLEHAMMER : NOTEBOOK
LILLEHAMMER, Norway — Now, here’s a cause you can get behind: Some U.S. mogul skiers wore gold armbands during the finals, protesting that freestyle ballet has not been made an Olympic sport.
“It is a shame that some of the world’s best athletes are not able to compete in the Olympics,” said Liz McIntyre, the silver-medal winner in moguls.
But McIntyre was not among the skiers wearing an armband.
“I didn’t wear mine, frankly, because I forgot,” she said.

Add McIntyre: Her parents came to Lillehammer to watch her in the Olympics. McIntyre, who grew up in New Hampshire but now lives in Winter Park, Colo., said her mother loves Norway.
“My mother raises sheep,” she said. “She weaves and knits. She’s excited to be in Norway with all the wool and buttons.”
