First Current-Account Surplus Since 1988 Posted: The 1993 surplus of $450 million followed a deficit of $4.5 billion in 1992, Bank of Korea said. The surplus was due largely to a $2-billion trade surplus, the first such surplus in four years and a reversal of 1992’s $2.1-billion trade deficit, the central bank said.
