Prisoner Struggling With Police Dies
A prisoner died at the County-USC jail ward as law enforcement officers restrained the man during a violent outburst, Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said Saturday.
The 41-year-old prisoner, whose name was being withheld pending notification of next of kin, had been taken into custody Friday when he allegedly assaulted a Los Angeles police officer responding to a domestic dispute in the 12200 block of Pacific Avenue in Mar Vista.
The man injured his head when he fell down a flight of stairs while struggling with the officer and was taken to the jail ward for treatment and booking, according to the Sheriff’s Department. The cause of death is under investigation by the coroner’s office.
