Kurtela Wins Two Sprints at Titan Meet
UC Irvine’s Pam Kurtela won the women’s 200 and 400 meters Saturday in the Titan Invitational track and field meet at Cal State Fullerton.
Kurtela’s time of 24.72 seconds led an Irvine sweep in the 200; she was followed by Andrea Dean (25.24) and Jamie Karrer (25.62). Kurtela ran the 400 in 57.45.
Athletes from Taft Community College dominated the men’s sprints, winning the 100, 200, 400 and 800 and both relays. Taft’s Steven King easily won the 100 by two-tenths of a second in 10.47.
Luketz Swartbooi of Reebok posted another of the day’s top men’s times, winning the 5,000 in 13:46.91.
Rob Chronister, competing unattached, won the men’s discus (165 feet 10 1/2 inches) and shotput (59-0).
