Vanessa Williams has just recorded Sting’s “Sister Moon”--originally found on his second solo album “. . . Nothing Like the Sun”--with Sting himself doing background vocals. The track will be featured on Williams’ next album, due in early summer. . . .

Seattle “riot grrrl” group 7 Year Bitch has officially signed to Atlantic Records, but has one more album coming from the Olympia independent C/Z Records. That album, “Viva Zapata,” is due May 20, and is dedicated to Mia Zapata, the singer for Seattle band the Gits who was murdered last year. The Gits’ final album, “Enter the Conquering Chicken,” was also just released by C/Z. . . .

George Clinton and his group Funkadelic appear in the upcoming movie “P.C.U.” doing versions of Prince’s “Erotic City” and their own “Tear the Roof Off the Sucker” plus a new song, “Stomp.” Also on the film soundtrack is a Mudhoney version of Elvis Costello’s “Pump It Up.” Ralph Sall (“Addams Family Values” and the “Deadicated” Grateful Dead tribute album) produced those tracks. “Erotic City” and “Stomp” will also be on a new Clinton EP, to be released as a preview to his expected slot on the “Lollapalooza ‘94” tour. . . .

The Soup Dragons--now basically a one-man operation of Sean Dickson--corralled an intriguing roster of guests for their upcoming album, due in June. Among those on hand are Bootsy Collins, T. Rex co-founder Mickey Finn and former Specials members Linval Golding and Neville Staples. . . .

This year’s H.O.R.D.E. tour (that’s Horizons of Rock Developing Everywhere, if you must know) will be headlined by the Allman Brothers Band and will include the jam-band trek’s first-ever Southern California stop, with a date expected in late July at the Glen Helen Blockbuster Pavilion. Also on board will be H.O.R.D.E. founder Blues Traveler and Big Head Todd & the Monsters. . . .
