NO LOOKIE-LOOS: The most expensive home ever sold in Orange County is on the market again. But before racing out to Harbor Island to take a peek, have your banker call first. . . . “You need an appointment,” says agent Gayle Amato at Prudential California Realty in Newport Beach, “and we really like people to be pre-qualified.” . . . Price tag on the 12,000-square-foot bay-front house is $13.5 million--2.2% less than owner George Yao paid new in 1991. By comparison, the asking price for the place next door is just $8.9 million, down from $14.5 million asked in 1991.
SPOTLIGHT ON HORROR: Are afternoon talk shows often just as sleazy as the evening tabloid shows? Add this to the debate: Maury Povich on Monday (Channel 9, 1 p.m.) will give a full hour to ex-convict Charles Rothenberg, who was imprisoned after setting a fire in a Buena Park motel room in 1983 that left his son David, then 6, permanently disfigured. . . . No sensationalism, the show’s producers say, but an attempt to prevent other instances of child abuse.
DANCE DOCTOR: Sheela Rao, 19, is a premed student at UC Irvine in a hurry to do something for medicine. So she’s doing what she knows best--dancing. Rao will highlight a show of classical Indian dance tonight at UC Irvine’s Crystal Cove Auditorium. It’s being sponsored by the premed honor society on campus, with funds going to the American Cancer Society. Says Rao: “This is the best way I can contribute at this point in my life.”
HEAD RAMS: Old football players aren’t always forgotten-- particularly if they were Pro Bowl caliber. The Rams Booster Club is honoring nearly two dozen Rams who made the Pro Bowl, as far back as 1946, with a dinner at the Yorba Linda Country Club Monday night--preceded by a golf outing. You can attend the dinner for $40, or play golf with them for $100. . . . Club officials are upfront about the purpose--anything to help persuade the Rams that Orange County wants the team to stay.
