PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP : Johnsen Powers Woodbridge’s Offense in Victory Over University
Alison Johnsen hit a two-run homer in the second inning to lead Woodbridge to a 5-1 victory over University in a Sea View League softball game Friday at University.
Johnsen was three for four and Stephanie Bernritter (5-1) struck out seven and had a no-hitter through six innings for Woodbridge (18-6, 9-1), ranked ninth in Orange County. University is 8-10, 6-4.
In other Sea View League games:
Irvine 6, Tustin 0--Amy Young pitched a two-hitter, striking out five for the Vaqueros (13-9, 7-3).
Santa Margarita 8, Corona del Mar 3--Amy Fenelli had four hits with four runs batted in and pitched a two-hitter, giving up no earned runs, for the host Eagles (15-9, 6-4).
In the Academy League:
St. Margaret’s 7, Connelly 3--Monica Arreloa pitched a complete game, striking out eight for St. Margaret’s (8-2, 4-0).
In Olympic League softball:
Brethren Christian 6, Orange Lutheran 0--Brooke Hofstetter struck out 12 and walked none to record the shutout for Brethren Christian (12-6, 5-4). Senior first baseman Tammy Judd was three for three with two doubles and four RBIs for the Warriors.
In Orange League softball:
Brea-Olinda 6, Anaheim 1--Jennifer Swender was two for three with two RBIs to lead Brea-Olinda (8-10, 4-2). Gretchen Thompson also was two for three, scored twice and had one RBI.
Western 4, Savanna 2--Adrian Ratajczak had three hits and scored two runs. Kelly Humphries and Jamie Jones added two hits each for visiting Western (12-8, 4-2).
In the Pacific Coast League:
Trabuco Hills 1, Costa Mesa 0--Natalie Galasso pitched a two-hit shutout, striking out five batters in Trabuco Hills’ victory (8-9, 5-1). Costa Mesa suffered its first league loss (9-8, 4-1).
In the South Coast League:
El Toro 5, Capistrano Valley 0--Dana Gulick scored on a fielder’s choice to start El Toro’s four-run scoring spree in the sixth inning. El Toro is 5-1 in league. Jeanne Torres was two for three to lead Capistrano Valley (12-7, 3-3).
Mater Dei 2, Dana Hills 0--Patty Godwin pitched a one-hit shutout for the Monarchs (17-3, 6-0). Lisa Tully and Candice Kollen each had two hits.
San Clemente 3, Mission Viejo 2--Brittany Laakso pitched a two-hitter for the Tritons (2-4 in league).
