The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to renew a $25,000 reward for information in the slaying of Laurie Myles, a North Hills woman who was shot and killed in front of her 9-year-old son as she stopped to pick up her teen-age daughter from a Bible study class.

City Councilman Hal Bernson made the motion to renew the cash reward to help Los Angeles Police Department detectives identify suspects in the Sept. 16 killing.

The original reward was posted five days after the 34-year-old woman was slain in the follow-home robbery.

In recent weeks, city officials have posted another $25,000 reward for information in the killing of Hee Wan Yoo, his wife Gyung Jin, and their two children, Kenneth, 4, and Pauline, 6, who were all gunned down at their home in a quiet Chatsworth neighborhood.

Over the last two years, citizens have collected $190,000 in reward money for valuable information, but the vast majority of reward money offered--about $1.5 million--has gone unclaimed, according to city records.

Despite only a 20% success rate, law enforcement officers endorse the idea because rewards often provide the incentive for someone with information to come forward.
