Fullerton’s Lee Beats Booth in Playoff
Fullerton’s Jenny Lee beat Kellee Booth of Coto de Caza on the second playoff hole to win the Girls’ Junior Championships tournament Monday in Tucson.
Booth, the defending champion, started the third round on the 6,133-yard, par-72 Sunrise course at El Conquistador Country Club two strokes ahead of Lee.
Lee, who is a junior at Sunny Hills High, shot one-under-par 71, Booth, who is a senior at Santa Margarita, shot 73 and they each finished one-under 215 for three rounds, six shots ahead of third-place Grace Park of Phoenix.
Booth, the reigning U.S. Junior Girls’ Champion who will attend Arizona State, had shot 68 in the first round Saturday, and shot 74 Sunday.
Jenny Glasgow, a sophomore at Corona del Mar High, shot 78 to finish with 236, in a tie for 22nd place.
Chris Berry, a senior at Esperanza, finished in a three-way tie for 22nd place at the ClubCorp Junior Championship in Akron, Ohio. Berry shot two-over 74 at Firestone Country Club to finish with a three-day total of 232. The winner, Michael Boyd of Tulsa, Okla., shot 211, 11 strokes ahead of second place.
