Mosley, Bryant Headline Boxing Card
IRVINE — Recently, the Irvine Marriott has featured big-name boxers trying to work their way back into title contention. But tonight, the six-bout card that begins at 7:30 is headlined by Pomona’s (Sugar) Shane Mosely, a talented young fighter who’s trying to make a name for himself.
Mosley (11-0 with 10 knockouts) faces Johnny Bryant (12-2), a brawler from Las Vegas, in the 10-round main event. Bryant’s awkward style figures to present some problems for Mosley. Three weeks ago, Bryant fought David Sample to a draw after being knocked down.
Middleweight Randy Smith, a stablemate of Mosley’s, will fight Seattle’s Walid Underwood (9-7) in an eight-round match. In one of four four-round bouts, Vista bantamweight Jose Gallegos (2-0) faces Huntington Beach’s John Vasquez (1-1) in a rematch of their bout that Gallegos won in April by split decision.
Tickets priced at $25, $30 and $35 will be on sale today at the Irvine Marriott, beginning at 9 a.m.
