VENTURA : Woman Held on Baby Kidnap Allegations
A 30-year-old Ventura woman is scheduled to be arraigned today after she was arrested on suspicion of trying to kidnap a 2-year-old boy from his mother’s side at a crowded holiday street fair.
Kelly Young was being held at Ventura County Jail on $20,000 bail.
Ventura police said Young allegedly tried to take William Goins at about 4:25 p.m. at Oak and Santa Clara streets in downtown Ventura on Monday. The toddler was walking next to his mother at the Ventura Street Fair.
“This woman took the kid by the hand and walked off, and Mom didn’t like it too much,” Sgt. Ted Prell said.
Kristy Goins, 22, of Hollywood, ran after Young and dragged her to the ground by her hair, Prell said. Young reportedly growled at her and then walked away, Prell said.
About two hours later, Goins’ sister, Amy, who witnessed the earlier incident, saw Young at the corner of Palm and Main streets. She hailed a police officer nearby, who arrested Young, Prell said.
