Santa Clarita / Antelope Valley : Transient Held on Arson Charges
PALMDALE — A 53-year-old transient was arrested Friday on suspicion of setting a 10-acre brush fire, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Raymond Steinwand, 53, was booked on suspicion of arson and was being held in lieu of $250,000 bail, said Lt. Terry Lewis of the Antelope Valley Sheriff’s Station.
The fire began about 3 p.m. Friday near 86th Street East and Pearblossom Highway. County firefighters brought it under control in about two hours.
“The transient was seen walking near where the fire started,” Lewis said. “He was walking away from there with matches.”
The brush fire destroyed a few utility sheds, including one in which Steinwand was believed to be living, Lewis said.
