VILLA PARK : Cable Installation to Begin in August
Construction work by Pacific Bell in placing new, high-tech underground cables in part of the city is scheduled to begin in August, City Manager Fred Maley said.
“We don’t expect any major (traffic) problems,” Maley said. He said work is scheduled to be completed by early 1995.
Pacific Bell is installing a combination of fiber optic and coaxial cables in about 40% of the city, in the area south of Santiago Boulevard. Installation of the new cables in the remainder of the city is scheduled in 1996. Some of the new cables in Villa Park will be on overhead wires, replacing older, existing overhead cables.
“It’s a modernization effort,” said James Bass, a regional manager for Pacific Bell. He described the new cables as being “state of the art” and able to carry up to 500 television stations.
