SUSAN B. ANTHONY SLEPT HERE: A Guide...
SUSAN B. ANTHONY SLEPT HERE: A Guide to American Women’s Landmarks by Lynn Sherr & Jurate Kazickas (Times Books: $18; 579 pp., illustrated). In this newly expanded edition, Sherr and Kazickas identify more than 2,000 sites associated with women’s achievements, ranging from monuments to Betsy Ross, Eleanor Roosevelt and Gertrude Stein to the graves of vaudevillians Addie and Effie Cherry, once billed as “the world’s worst sister act.” Local points of interest include a mural honoring Biddy Mason, one of the founders of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, in downtown Los Angeles, and Dorsey High School, named for Susan Dorsey, the first female superintendent of schools in Los Angeles.
