TLC member Lisa (Left Eye) Lopes is still facing criminal charges and going through a drug rehab program in the wake of her allegedly starting the fire that destroyed the Atlanta mansion of her boyfriend, pro football star Andre Rison. But she’s been allowed to work on the group’s now-delayed second album as an outpatient. A spokesman for LaFace Records says it’s three-fourths done and is definitely coming out in the fall, most likely mid-October. The first single will be “Creep.” Plans for a TLC tour are still uncertain. . . .

A&M; is planning an album of old live tracks by the Police to be released in September, with a greatest-hits collection from ex-Policeman Sting possible for the following month. . . .

Sting is also one of the artists lined up for a star-studded Leonard Cohen tribute album, also featuring U2’s Bono, Elton John, Billy Joel, Don Henley, Trisha Yearwood, Tori Amos, Aaron Neville, Daniel Lanois and Depeche Mode’s Martin Gore--all doing songs written by Cohen. The album, titled “Towers of Song,” is due in early ’95. . . .

Another tribute album subject is Tom Petty, who is being saluted by American indie bands on a collection titled “You Got Lucky.” Among the selections are a Steve Albini-produced “Insider” by Seattle-based band Silkworm, “Southern Accents” by Sub Pop band Red Red Meat and a version of “Century City” by San Diego’s aMiniature. . . .

Boy, are we embarrassed: We got the name wrong last week on Amy Grant’s duet partner for her upcoming video and single “House of Love.” It’s Vince Gill. . . . And while we’re at it, we had bogus info on the release date for Neil Young’s “Sleeps With Angels.” The album is due Aug. 16. . . .

Toad the Wet Sprocket fans can look for two previously unreleased live recordings as bonus tracks on the group’s next single, “Something’s Always Wrong.” The live numbers, “Don’t Go Away” and “Corporal Brown,” were recorded in concert in the band’s hometown of Santa Barbara. Toad plays Wednesday at the Fairfax High School Auditorium. . . .

Simple Minds has re-teamed with Keith Forsey, who wrote and produced the Scottish band’s biggest hit, “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” from the movie “The Breakfast Club.” Forsey produced the Jim Kerr-fronted group’s album “Good News for the Next World,” due Oct. 4. . . . Joe Jackson has taken another detour into his classical background for his next album, “Night Music,” a guitar-less and drum-less collection of nocturnes, also due Oct. 4. . . .

Cowboy Junkies have recorded the traditional folk song “The Water Is Wide” for the soundtrack of the Meryl Streep/Matthew Modine film “The River Wild.” An album featuring the song and Maurice Jarre’s score is due Sept. 13. . . .

Weird Al Yankovic has tried his hand at video directing for “The Redneck Stomp,” a clip by country comedian Jeff Foxworthy. . . .

Michael Stipe, Henry Rollins, Lou Reed, William S. Burroughs, Sandra Bernhard and Johnette Napolitano are among those whose work is included in the book “Cause: Unrest,” a collection benefiting Rock for Choice. The book includes all the pieces performed on the 1992 “Cause” spoken-word CD plus new material. . . .

Charlie Sexton is working with producer Malcolm Burn on his first album since the breakup of his band the Arc Angels. Sexton has been writing songs with Tonio K. . . .

Veteran L.A. rocker Carla Olson has a new album, “Reap the Wind,” due Tuesday on the small Watermelon label. Guests include former Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor, former Go-Go Kathy Valentine (a bandmate of Olson’s in the old band the Textones), soul singer Percy Sledge and Paul Revere & the Raiders’ Mark Lindsay.
