Man Held in Alleged Rape in La Habra
LA HABRA — A 32-year-old was arrested on suspicion of rape Saturday morning, less than 2 1/2 hours after he allegedly attacked a sleeping woman in her apartment, police said.
Emanual Ascencio of La Habra was arrested by police officers, who saw he was driving a Chevrolet pickup that matched the description of a vehicle given by the victim’s neighbors, Sgt. Kevin Raisch said.
Ascencio was stopped near Walnut Avenue and Whittier Boulevard, about a quarter mile from the home of the victim, who later identified Ascencio as her attacker, Raisch said. The woman did not know Ascencio, police said.
The suspect was held in lieu of $50,000 bail, Raisch said.
The assault occurred at 8:30 a.m. after an intruder climbed through a screened, open kitchen window at the woman’s home, police said.
