5 Injured in Chase of Grand Theft Suspect
A car pursued by Brea police collided with a van Saturday night at a busy intersection where Fullerton and La Habra meet, injuring at least five people, Fullerton police said.
The pursuit began at about 9:15 p.m. when Brea officers followed a car westbound on Imperial Highway that was driven by a man suspected of involvement in grand theft, police said. At the intersection of Imperial Highway and Harbor Boulevard, the car hit a van traveling northbound on Harbor.
The suspect was ejected from the car, and his female passenger was seriously injured, said Fullerton Lt. Tony Hernandez. Three people in the van were “moderately injured,” he said. All were taken to nearby hospitals.
One of the vehicles hit a fire hydrant, and a geyser of water flooded the intersection, which had to be closed off to traffic, Hernandez said. Brea, Fullerton and La Habra police were investigating Saturday night.
The names of the people involved were not available late Saturday.
