SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : Council Votes to Create Fire Board
The City Council this week voted to join other cities in creating a proposed governing body for the Orange County Fire Department.
City Manager George Scarborough told the council that San Juan Capistrano was one of the last cities to consider taking part in the proposed joint powers authority before the issue goes to the Board of Supervisors.
If formed, the governing body would be launched this fall and assume full responsibility for the Orange County Fire Department, which serves several cities, including San Juan Capistrano. Each participating city would have a voting member on the authority’s board of directors.
According to a city staff report, 85% of the Orange County Fire Department’s service area is within cities. The department also provides services for unincorporated parts of the county.
