SAN FERNANDO : $1 Million Allocated for Quake Repairs
The city of San Fernando will receive more than $1 million in federal funds to help revitalize multifamily housing damaged by the Northridge earthquake.
The funds will be allocated through the Housing and Urban Development Home Partnership program, which provides funds to damaged housing critical to neighborhood revitalization efforts.
Rep. Howard Berman (D-Panorama City) said special emphasis will be placed on rebuilding a “ghost town” area that straddles the Sylmar-San Fernando boundary.
“These funds will help apartment and condo owners in San Fernando’s ghost town get their units back on the market,” Berman said. “Many of the damaged apartments and condos were occupied by hard-working, low-income individuals. These people are the lifeblood of the community, and we must ensure that they continue to have decent and affordable places to live.”
