SAN FRANCISCO--Traditional designs and contemporary styles are showcased in works by 325 artisans at the 19th annual American Craft Council Craft Fair San Francisco, Aug. 12-14. Glass, wood, metals and other media are featured in the juried show, 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday-Sunday. TEHACHAPI--Celebrate the 31st annual Mountain Festival with events all over town, Aug. 20-21. Arts and crafts, kids’ activities and entertainment are in the City Park, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. both days. Other highlights include a rodeo and a parade. Many events are free. (805) 822-4180.

ORICK--The bright yellow mollusk takes center stage at the 26th annual Banana Slug Derby, Aug. 20, in Prairie Creek Redwood State Park. A parade is about noon, followed by the races (in various categories) about 1 p.m. The homespun event seeks to educate the public about the much-maligned slug and its role in forest ecology. Free.
