Rockwell International Corp.: The company said Tuesday that its transportation systems unit has won a $1.9-million, two-year contract to develop a computerized traffic management system for Oakland County in southeastern Michigan--part of a pilot program for a national system.

Rockwell’s transportation systems unit, based in Anaheim, will manage the project through its Troy, Mich., regional office. A number of other companies are part of the Rockwell-led partnership developing the program.

Rockwell will provide a transportation information management system that will enable officials to link and control traffic routing for civilian, police and commercial vehicles and other modes of transportation, including buses and trains.

Rockwell’s involvement in the Oakland County pilot project began in 1992, when it completed design and development of an integrated traffic operations center in Troy. The center houses the central computers and communications equipment that manage and monitor the traffic systems.
