Firefighter’s Son Accused of Arson
VANCOUVER, British Columbia — The 19-year-old son of a firefighter was charged with setting a forest fire that forced evacuation of thousands of residents in southeastern British Columbia, officials said Friday.
Jeremy Kraiger was taken into custody and charged in provincial court with one count of arson related to the blaze near the resort community of Penticton east of Vancouver, police said.
The fire started July 20 and burned out of control for more than 2 weeks. It ravaged 13,600 acres, destroyed 18 homes and forced the evacuation of nearly 3,000 residents.
