That’s No Way to Reward a Brave Act
* The story regarding a customer firing at a bank robber (“Customer, Fleeing Bank Robber Exchange Gunfire,” Aug. 6) illustrates clearly why crime is evident.
A brave citizen acts against an armed criminal who has just committed a felony and for his good deed and courage is arrested and charged with three crimes: carrying a concealed weapon, discharging a firearm, and delaying the investigation.
If eventually acquitted, he will probably be in hock to the legal profession for a couple of years’ pay.
California’s laws are a marvelous protection for the criminal. Many folks who have the courage to risk their lives by acting against crime are deterred by the near certainty of losing their savings and quite possibly homes and jobs through the action of our legal systems.
