Homes Lose Power Amid Heat Wave
Power outages struck parts of Agoura and Calabasas on Saturday after Southern California Edison Co. recorded a peak amount of power usage in the third day of record high temperatures.
At 6:49 p.m., Edison started receiving calls from residents reporting outages, said Trish Edmunds, a spokeswoman for Southern California Edison. Power was expected to resume for most customers by 11 p.m.
“We know that circuits are blowing because of an increase in usage in all types of power, mostly air conditioners,” said Edmunds.
On Saturday afternoon, 16,441 megawatts of power were being used in the Southern California area, the highest amount recorded for a weekend day since 1992, Edmunds said.
