Federal Art Funds
* Re “It’s Curtains for Federal Arts Funding,” Column Right, Aug. 9:
The case is made by Rep. Philip Crane (R-Ill.) that our Founding Fathers considered funding of the arts to be unwise. The congressman should note that our Founding Fathers also considered it unwise to give the vote to women, blacks and white trash (i.e., you middle-class beer-drinking Americans). Our Founding Fathers also concurred with the wisdom of allowing the practice of slavery.
Is this the great wisdom of our Founding Fathers to which Crane refers in making the case against funding for the National Endowment for the Arts?
