PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE NFL : Metcalf Charged with Carrying Weapon
Cleveland Brown running back Eric Metcalf was charged Monday with carrying a loaded revolver in his car, while teammate Eric Turner wasn’t charged because a pistol in his car wasn’t loaded. The two were arrested last week on charges of drag racing along Interstate 480 in suburban Cleveland.
Metcalf was charged because his 9 millimeter pistol was loaded and within reach. Turner’s unloaded .45-caliber pistol was kept locked and in a separate compartment from the ammunition, Prosecutor Thomas Gill said.
Metcalf, 26, was charged with improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
Both were charged last Tuesday with improper lane changing and reckless driving. Each was released on $420 bond.

Tony Casillas, declared a free agent this summer after leaving the Kansas City Chiefs to be treated for hypertension, signed a one-year contract with the New York Jets. . . . Chicago Bear quarterback Erik Kramer has a “slightly separated” shoulder and said he probably won’t know until later this week if he can play Sunday night against the New York Jets. Kramer injured the shoulder when he was sacked by John Randle in the third quarter of a 42-14 loss to Minnesota on Sunday. . . . Pittsburgh Steeler defensive end Ray Seals has a broken left thumb and his status for Sunday’s game at Seattle hasn’t been determined. . . . Colt defensive end Jon Hand fractured his right leg in Sunday’s 31-21 loss at Pittsburgh and is expected to be sidelined about eight weeks. The Colts might get lineman Tony McCoy back sooner than expected. He had surgery to repair torn cartilage in his right knee last week and has responded quicker than anticipated. Tackle Steve Emtman, who had season-ending knee injuries each of the past two years, also has continued making progress but is not ready to return to the lineup.
