Tustin Guard Gottlieb Picks Notre Dame
Doug Gottlieb, a point guard at Tustin High, made an oral commitment to attend Notre Dame, he announced Wednesday.
Gottlieb, a 6-foot, 180-pound senior, was a Times all-county selection and the Sea View League boys’ basketball most valuable player last season after averaging 19.7 points and nine assists.
“I loved the campus at Notre Dame,” Gottlieb said. “I like the idea of going to play in the Big East as a freshman.”
Notre Dame, which plays as an independent, will join the Big East for basketball in the 1995-96 season.
Gottlieb, who also has a 3.6 grade-point average, visited Notre Dame Sept. 9-11 and told Coach John MacLeod of his intention to sign with the Fighting Irish Friday.
Gottlieb canceled trips to Connecticut, Florida, Michigan State and Virginia. He also considered UCLA and Stanford.
