N.Y. City Ballet Principals Changes Bill

Principals of New York City Ballet has announced changes in programming for its upcoming engagement, Oct. 7-9, at Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts.

Now showcasing five Los Angeles premieres, the engagement will feature American Ballet Theatre principal dancers Julie Kent and Paloma Herrera as guest artists.

Next Friday at 8 p.m., the troupe presents two premieres: Principal dancer and choreographer Damian Woetzel will introduce “Ebony Concerto,” and principal dancer and choreographer Sean Lavery will offer the “Romeo and Juliet” pas de deux.

The program also will feature William Forsyth’s “Herman Schmerman,” Peter Martins’ “Valse Triste” and “Barber Violin Concerto,” as well as the pas de deux from “Don Quixote” (with Herrera).

Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. are three premieres: “Octet,” choreographed by Robert Weiss; “Glazunov Pas De Deux,” choreographed by Damian Woetzel, and “Viola Alone,” by choreographer Kevin O’Day. Michel Fokine’s “The ‘Dying Swan,” (featuring Kent) and Martins’ “Ash” are among additional works to be featured.

Oct. 9’s 3 p.m. program will repeat works from Friday and Saturday, including “Viola Alone,” “The Dying Swan,” “Herman Schmerman,” as well as Martins’ “Ecstatic Orange.”
