THOUSAND OAKS : Workshop to Focus on Artists’ Survival

Survival skills will be the key theme at Saturday’s Conejo Artscene ‘94, as professional artists discuss how they produce, market and sell their work.

Renowned artist Tony Duquette, whose works have been displayed around the world, will speak on the visual arts, describing how budding artists can reach audiences and set personal goals. And actor Lane Davies, now appearing as Don Quixote in the local production of “Man of La Mancha,” will lead a workshop on performance art.

The daylong event at the Civic Arts Plaza begins at 9 a.m. with a lesson in marketing led by a professional publicist and newspaper journalist.

Also at 9, local performers can ask questions about Thousand Oaks’ new theaters, such as what insurance to purchase, how to work with the box office and whom to hire for technical support.

Other workshops will take place throughout the day. Admission to the full selection of seminars costs $4, or $2 for students and senior citizens.

During the workshops, a free demonstration room will feature the latest in animation, computer and multimedia technology. Local artists and theatrical groups will also distribute information throughout the day.
