Airport Terminal Getting Some Color

Burbank Airport will soon have a new, more colorful look, an airport spokesman said Monday.

The repainting of the airport’s terminal from light and dark gray to blue and white is progressing, said Victor Gill, an airport spokesman. The names of the seven airlines that serve the airport will be painted across the top of the terminal, Gill said.

Work on the terminal, last painted in 1988, will not be complete until the end of the year.

“From a long distance, you would think the majority of it is done,” Gill said. “But a lot of the finishing work is still under way.”

As part of the project, the green tile at the entrance to the terminal will be torn down and replaced with plaster to match the stucco material on the rest of the building, Gill said.

Airport commissioners in August approved spending $114,000 to repaint the terminal.

As part of another refurbishing project at the airport, passengers with disabilities will find it easier to get to the ticket counters, Gill said.

The Airport Commission approved $47,000 in renovations for handicapped accessibility Sept. 19. Workers will begin installing ramps for wheelchairs at the front entrance to the terminal the end of this month, and work is expected to be finished by Thanksgiving, Gill said.

Now, the wheelchair-accessible entrance is 40 feet to the right of the main entrance and is not convenient to all of the ticket counters, Gill said.

During the summer, the airport completed a project to make the signs around the terminal easier to read so that drivers can better get into the proper lane as they approach the airport, Gill said.
