DANA POINT : Residents Urged to Engrave Belongings

As part of its Neighborhood Watch program, the city will loan citizens electric engravers to make their personal possessions less attractive to burglars and easier to recover if stolen.

Through Operation Identification, the city will make the engravers available during the week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“Operation I.D. involves the marking of property with an identifying number as a means of discouraging burglary and theft,” said Yomar Cleary, who is coordinating the program for the city.

The engravers are available at City Hall, 33282 Golden Lantern. There is no charge for the equipment, but a $10 deposit will be required.

Cleary recommends marking valuables with a driver’s license or California identification card number. Large items such as televisions, camera equipment, small appliances and tools should be marked. For further information, call Cleary at (714) 248-3517.
